Very neat large skeletal crystal grouping of metallic acanthite. There are no points of attachment and this is crystallized completely all around.

The San Carlos vein (Veta San Carlos) within the Proano mine, located at Fresnillo in Zacatecas, Mexico, is a highly significant silver-bearing structure in one of the world's most productive silver mining districts. Geologically, the deposit is a classic intermediate sulfidation epithermal vein system hosted within a Mesozoic volcano-sedimentary rock sequence that is unconformably overlain by Tertiary volcanic tuffs and flows. Hydrothermal mineralization along regional structural fractures deposited abundant silver, lead, and zinc minerals, with the San Carlos vein specifically noted for sharp, well-crystallized specimens of acanthite, pyrargyrite, and polybasite inside open vugs. While the broader Proano hill area has experienced nearly continuous silver extraction since its initial discovery in 1554, the San Carlos vein itself was discovered much later in 1997 during modern exploration programs conducted by Industrias Penoles. Following its discovery, the vein was rapidly integrated into the main underground operations of the active Fresnillo mining complex, remaining a major contributor to corporate silver production and a source of world-class sulfide specimens well into the twenty-first century.
