description: Mount Malosa in Malawi is a well known alkaline intrusive complex that has produced a wide variety of rare minerals associated with nepheline syenite and related rocks. The geology of the area is characterized by highly evolved magmas rich in sodium and other uncommon elements, which created favorable conditions for the formation of unusual mineral species. Although not a major mining district in the traditional sense, the locality has been worked on a small scale for mineral specimens and occasional extraction of feldspar and related materials. Among the most notable minerals from Mount Malosa is aegirine, which occurs as well formed prismatic crystals that are typically dark green to black with a vitreous luster. These crystals often form in cavities and pegmatitic zones within the host rock, sometimes in association with other rare minerals.
A very fine example for the species with deep greenish black thick terminated aegirine crystals hosting blocky white crystals of microcline. In super condition all around.
