Sacaramb, located in Hunedoara County within the Metaliferi Mountains of Romania, is a legendary historic mining district formerly known by its Hungarian name Nagyag. Geologically, the area is situated in the Neogene Transylvanian basin volcanic arc, where calc-alkaline magmatism produced complex hydrothermal vein systems hosted in andesitic rocks. Historically, mining operations date back centuries, gaining international renown in the late 18th century as the type locality for several rare telluride minerals. Mineralogically, the district is world-famous for producing exceptional specimens of native tellurium, nagyagite, and various gold and silver tellurides, making it one of the most significant precious metal and mineralogical localities in European mining history.
