description: The Kanarata quarry, located near the village of Hlyabovo in the Topolovgrad municipality of Haskovo Province, southeastern Bulgaria, sits on the northeastern periphery of the Sakar Carboniferous granite batholith. Historically developed as a site for quarrying and geological study, the area exposes medium-grained albitized granitoids and amphibolite xenoliths affected by complex post-Variscan and Mesozoic metasomatic processes. Mineralogically, the deposit is famous for its unique hydrothermal veins and specialized mineral assemblages, including accessory phases. Almandine, a prominent member of the garnet group, occurs within these metamorphic and granitic environments as deep red to brownish-red isometric crystals, formed under high-temperature and high-pressure regional or contact metamorphic events that shaped the crystalline basement of the Sakar Mountain region.
A sharp deep red slightly translucent crystal of almandine 3.1.3 centimeter in size embedded up on a schist matrix. This is in good condition.
