A superb thumbnail combination specimen for this area, and elongated grouping of lustrous magnetite crystals is hosting near gemmy honey colored crystals of anatase measuring to 0.5 cm in size. Very slight and minor micro-damage present, this is complete all around with no points of attachment and in my opinion is in very good condition.

The Binn Valley, or Binntal, located in the Valais Canton of Switzerland, is one of the most famous mineralogical localities in the Alps, celebrated for its unique suite of rare sulfosalts and oxides. Geologically, the region is composed of Triassic-aged dolomite and metamorphic rocks of the Monte Leone nappe, where hydrothermal activity during the Alpine orogeny created crystal-lined fissures, or alpine clefts, within the Lengenbach and surrounding sites. The valley is a premier source for anatase, a polymorph of titanium dioxide that occurs as sharp, lustrous, bipyramidal crystals ranging in color from deep indigo blue to honey yellow or pitch black, often found perched on smoky quartz or adularia. Historically, mining and quarrying for iron ore and copper took place intermittently between the 17th and 19th centuries, but the area gained international prominence in the mid-1800s when researchers began systematically extracting specimens for scientific study. While large-scale industrial mining is not a primary focus today, the Lengenbach quarry remains an active site for professional mineral specimen recovery through 2026, operating under strict regulations to preserve its status as a world-class geological heritage site.
