Andradite
specimen number:
1115653
location:
Belqeys Mtn, Takab Co., West Azerbaijan, Iran
description: Belqeys Mountain, situated in Takab County within the West Azerbaijan Province of Iran, features a rich history highlighted by a Sasanian-era fortress on its summit and small-scale mineral collecting operations that began around 2013 for its famous gemstone specimens (it remains active today on an artisanal level). Geologically, the mountain is set within the metamorphic framework of the region, consisting primarily of mica schists, quartzites, and marbles. These metamorphic rock units provide the high-pressure and high-temperature conditions necessary for the formation of its renowned mineral assemblages, most notably gem-quality green demantoid garnets.
A gorgeous lustrous sharp perfect deep green crystal of andradite, this the variety known as demantoid, 2.5 cm across on matrix.
