Andradite

specimen number:
2262375

location:
Kayes region, Mali

description:
A loose complete crystal of andradite. In good condition.

The Kayes Region in western Mali, particularly around areas like the Nioro du Sahel Circle (including Diakon and Sibinndi), has gained international prominence within the mineralogical community through small-scale and artisanal specimen mining that accelerated significantly in recent years. Geologically, the localized deposits occur within complex metamorphic and skarn-associated environments where regional hydrothermal fluids have interacted with carbonate-rich sequences. Mineralogically, this region has become famous for producing exceptional, sharp, well-crystallized specimens of andradite, a calcium-iron member of the garnet group, often featuring striking yellow, greenish-yellow, brown, or black crystal clusters that are heavily sought after by global mineral collectors and museums.
