The St. Margarethe Mine, located near Breitenbrunn in the Erzgebirge of Saxony, Germany, is part of a historic mining district with centuries of activity centered on iron, tin, and skarn-type mineral deposits. Geologically, the area is characterized by complex metamorphic complexes and carbonate-rich rock units that underwent intense metasomatic alteration and hydrothermal activity, producing prominent skarn formations. These geological conditions created environments rich in accessory phases, making the local underground workings and dumps well known among mineral collectors for yielding specimens of various silicate and oxide minerals, including distinct andradite garnet crystals.
