specimen number:
2312202

location:
Serifos Island, Cyclades, Aegean Islands, Greece

description:
A cluster of hedenbergite crystals, one side covered with sharp crystals of andradite measuring to 0.6 cm in size. In great condition.

Serifos Island, located in the western Cyclades of Greece, has a rich mining history dating back to ancient times, with intensive industrial-scale iron and copper extraction peaking during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Geologically, the island is part of the Attic-Cycladic metamorphic complex, characterized by a granitic intrusion that interacted with carbonate-rich host rocks to form world-renowned skarn deposits.
