Dividend, located in the East Tintic District of Utah, was a significant company town and mining center primarily active during the early to mid-20th century. Geologically, the area is characterized by complex hydrothermal replacement deposits and fissure veins hosted within Paleozoic carbonate rocks, often associated with volcanic activity that introduced rich ores of lead, silver, gold, and copper. The town was established around 1907 and grew significantly following the 1916 discovery of the Tintic Standard mine's massive ore body, which became one of the most profitable silver-lead mines in the world. Historically, Dividend reached its peak in the 1920s as a thriving residential community for workers at the Tintic Standard, with large-scale operations continuing through the 1940s before ore depletion and economic shifts led to its decline. Most mining activity in the immediate vicinity ceased by the 1950s, eventually turning the site into a ghost town with only foundations and mine dumps remaining today.
