Dundas, located in the Zeehan mineral field of Western Tasmania, Australia, is a world-renowned locality famous for its exceptional secondary lead minerals. Geologically, the area is characterized by the oxidation of primary galena-rich veins hosted within Dundas Group sedimentary rocks, creating a prolific environment for rare chromate and carbonate minerals. The district is particularly noted for producing aesthetic specimens of anglesite, which occurs as sharp, colorless to pale yellow orthorhombic crystals, often found as a secondary alteration product of galena in the oxidized zones of mines like the Comet and the Adelaide. Historically, mining and quarrying in the Dundas area began in the late 1880s following the discovery of silver-lead ore, with the town of Dundas reaching its peak population in the 1890s during a period of intense industrial activity. Most major commercial operations in the field were intermittent or had significantly declined by the 1930s, although specialized specimen mining for crocoite and other rare species has continued sporadically through 2026.
