Cavnic, Maramures Co., Romania
description: Cavnic is a historic mining town located in Maramures County in northwestern Romania, within the Baia Mare mining district. Mining activities in the area date back centuries, with intensive extraction of polymetallic ores containing gold, silver, copper, lead, and zinc. Geologically, the deposit is situated in the Inner Carpathians and is associated with Neogene volcanic activity and hydrothermal systems. The mineralization occurs primarily as complex vein systems and breccias hosted within volcanic and sedimentary rocks, renowned globally for producing a diverse array of exceptional mineral specimens and crystal aggregates.
Dark botryoidal crystallized aragonite covering matrix. Neat locality example for the species. In good condition. At one time the specimen was part of the collection of Wolfgang Henkel.
