Colquechaca in Bolivia is a historic silver mining district that was developed during the Spanish colonial period and became an important source of silver in the Andes. Mining continued through the 19th and early 20th centuries, working rich hydrothermal vein deposits hosted in volcanic and sedimentary rocks. The district supported extensive underground workings and produced large amounts of silver along with other metals. Although production declined over time, Colquechaca remains an important part of Bolivias mining history.

Argyrodite is a rare silver germanium sulfide mineral that was first described from Freiberg, Germany, where it played a key role in the discovery of the element germanium. It typically occurs as dark gray to black massive material or small crystals in hydrothermal ore deposits rich in silver.
