location:
Bisbee, Cochise Co., Arizona, USA
description: Bisbee, Arizona, is one of the most important historic mining districts in the United States, with activity beginning in the late 1870s after the discovery of rich copper deposits in the Mule Mountains. The geology of the district is characterized by replacement deposits and vein systems hosted in limestone and related rocks, where hydrothermal fluids introduced copper, lead, zinc, gold, and silver. Early mining focused on high grade underground ore, with major operations such as the Copper Queen Mine driving rapid development. By the early 20th century, Bisbee had become a leading copper producer, and later large scale open pit mining, including the Lavender Pit, expanded production. The oxidized zones of the deposits produced an extraordinary variety of secondary minerals, making Bisbee a world famous locality for mineral specimens. Lazard Cahn was an important American mineral dealer based in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was active mostly throughout the first half of the 20th century.
Beautiful vibrant blue botryoidal crystallized azurite covering the top of matrix. In good condition. The color is outstanding making this very attractive. The specimen comes with a previous antique label dating this to the early 20th century. This label is shown at the end of the video. The specimen was originally acquired through the American dealer Lazard Cahn.
