Beautiful cluster of yellow thick lustrous slightly translucent tabular barite crystals with little attached fluorite. This is in super condition. This is from the famous find at this locality in 1975. In super condition. There was a short article in The Mineralogical Record back in the mid 1970s detailing this find.

The Gaskins Mine in Pope County, Illinois was a small operation within the Illinois Kentucky Fluorspar District in southern Illinois. Mining in the area focused on fluorite deposits that occurred in veins and replacement bodies within limestone. The mine produced fluorite along with associated minerals such as calcite, galena, and sphalerite. Like many mines in the district, it contributed to the regions production of fluorspar used in steel and chemical industries during the 20th century.
