Taxco de Alarcon, located in the northern part of the state of Guerrero, Mexico, is a historic mining town with operations dating back to pre-Columbian times and accelerated significantly after the Spanish arrival in the early 16th century, particularly under the silver boom orchestrated by Jose de la Borda in the 1700s. Geologically, the area is situated within the Guerrero Terrane, characterized by a complex sequence of Cretaceous volcanic and sedimentary rocks that were intruded by Tertiary granitic and subvolcanic bodies, creating favorable hydrothermal conditions for mineral deposition. Mineralogically, the district is world-renowned for its rich polymetallic vein deposits, producing exceptional specimens of silver, quartz, calcite, fluorite, and various base metal sulfides that have made it a legendary locality for mineral collectors worldwide.
