The Pohla-Tellerhauser mine, located in the Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains) region near Schwarzenberg, Saxony, Germany, sits in an area with small-scale mining roots dating back to medieval times. Intensive modern operations began with the driving of the Pohla Adit in 1967 by the former Soviet-German corporation SDAG Wismut to explore for uranium. Exploration and secondary iron ore or exploratory mining continued through various stages until 1988 and 1991, when active state-backed operations ceased following German reunification. The site has since been the focus of modern evaluations and development for its critical and strategic polymetallic resources. Geologically, the deposit is hosted within a complex metamorphic and skarn-bearing terrain of the western Erzgebirge. The mineralization is characterized by skarn bodies formed through the interaction of magmatic and hydrothermal fluids with carbonate-rich rock sequences, resulting in significant concentrations of tin, tungsten, zinc, indium, magnetite, and copper sulfides.
