Wonderful attractive antique specimen from this old locality. Glassy translucent deep blue crystals of beryl, this is the variety known as aquamarine, set on matrix. Slight damage present, this still very good for this antique. The specimen comes with an old label as shown at the end of the video and dates to the very early 20th century.

Sulzbachtal, located in the Salzburg region of Austria within the Hohe Tauern mountain range, is a historic alpine valley renowned for its rich mineral heritage and centuries of traditional crystal hunting. Geologically, the area lies within the Tauern Window, where intense tectonic uplift and regional metamorphism created complex Alpine fissure systems within ancient gneiss, schist, and amphibolite rocks. These open fissures allowed circulating hydrothermal fluids to deposit a wide array of high-quality mineral specimens. Mineralogically, the valley is famous for producing exceptional alpine minerals, including superb rock crystals, titanite, apatite, and striking blue to blue-green aquamarine crystals.
