description: The Redington Mine in Napa County, California, is a historic mercury mining locality that was worked mainly during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The deposit consists of cinnabar bearing mineralization formed in hydrothermal systems. In the oxidized zones of the mine, a variety of secondary sulfate minerals developed. Botryogen, an iron magnesium sulfate mineral, occurs there as red to orange fibrous or botryoidal aggregates formed by the alteration of sulfide minerals.
Crystallized boytroygen throughout matrix. A very good example for the species, this comes with an antique label set as shown at the end of the video and dates to the very early 20th century.
