Brazilianite with Quartz

specimen number:
9205003

location:
Telirio Mine, Linopolis, Minas Gerais, Brazil

description:

A gem glassy yellow green terminated crystal of brazilianite 2.0 cm in size on massive quartz. Unusual to see these crystals on quartz like this, the quality is very good for the species.

The Telirio Mine, located near Linopolis in the Doce valley of Minas Gerais, Brazil, is a celebrated pegmatite working with a history of artisanal and specimen mining. Geologically, the deposit is situated within complex Precambrian metamorphic host rocks that were intruded by granitic pegmatites during regional tectonic events. These granitic intrusions underwent extensive fractional crystallization and late-stage hydrothermal fluid activity, concentrating elements such as phosphorus, aluminum, and sodium. The resulting complex pocket zones within the pegmatite have made the mine famous among mineral collectors worldwide for producing exceptional, glassy crystals of brazilianite, often accompanied by beryllonite, muscovite, and albite.
