Broken Hill in New South Wales, Australia, is one of the most important lead zinc silver mining districts in the world, discovered in 1883 and extensively developed for metal production. The deposit occurs in metamorphosed sedimentary rocks and includes large oxidized zones that produced many secondary minerals. Bromargyrite, a silver bromide mineral, occurs there as pale yellow to greenish waxy masses and small crystals formed by the alteration of primary silver minerals.
