description: The Pendleton Quarry, also known as the Irving Materials Quarry, is located near Anderson in Madison County, Indiana. Geologically, the quarry operations extract stone from Paleozoic sedimentary rock formations, where vugs and cavities within the limestone and dolomite strata have allowed for the circulation of mineral-rich solutions. Mineralogically, the site is famous among collectors for producing exceptional, highly lustrous, golden to amber-colored calcite crystals and complex twins. Historically, the quarry has served as a key regional aggregate producer while gaining widespread recognition in the mid-to-late 20th century as a classic midwestern locality for high-quality carbonate mineral specimens.
A wonderful matrix example for this Indiana classic. The largest twin crystal measures almost 3.5 cm in size. In great condition. These are rarely seen on matrix.
