The Tsumeb Mine in Namibia was one of the worlds most famous polymetallic mines, developed in the late 19th century to exploit a rich pipe like orebody containing copper, lead, and zinc along with numerous minor and rare elements. Large scale underground mining expanded through the 20th century under various companies, with ore processed at a local smelter that became central to the towns economy. The deposit is renowned for its exceptional mineral diversity, producing hundreds of distinct mineral species including many rare secondary copper minerals formed in the oxidized zone. Although primary mining ceased in the 1990s, Tsumeb remains one of the most celebrated mineral localities in the world for both its economic and scientific importance. This locality is famous for the variety and attractive calcite specimens that were produced. This one is excellent with colorless lustrous translucent crystals covering the top of matrix. This is in really good condition. As time goes by, these are becoming more and more difficult to acquire in this quality in size.
