Calcite

specimen number:
2072011

location:
Agoudal Mine, Bou Azzer, Souss-Massa-Draa, Morocco

description:
Gorgeous lustrous pink botryoidal crystallized calcite covering the top of matrix. This is in super condition with great color.

The Agoudal Mine, located in the Bou Azzer region of Morocco, is part of a mining district known for cobalt, nickel, and associated mineralization within Precambrian rocks. Mining in the area has focused on hydrothermal vein deposits, where metal rich fluids moved through fractures and deposited a variety of minerals. In addition to its economic importance, the locality is well known among collectors for its attractive calcite specimens. The calcite from Agoudal commonly occurs as pink botryoidal masses, forming smooth, rounded surfaces with a soft luster. These formations developed in cavities where calcium rich solutions precipitated under stable conditions, sometimes producing layered or banded structures. Specimens from this locality are valued for their color and form, making them a distinctive example of calcite from Morocco.
