Scalenohedral lustrous crystals of calcite to 1.5 cm in size covering most all sides of this matrix. Minimal cleaving present, still in good condition. This shows nicely all around.

The Kamariza mines in the Lavrion district of Greece are part of one of the oldest mining regions in the world, with activity dating back to ancient Greek times when silver and lead were extracted to support the economy of Athens. Mining continued through Roman and later periods and was revived on a large scale in the 19th century with modern underground workings and processing facilities. The deposits occur in carbonate rocks with complex hydrothermal mineralization. The district is well known among collectors for a wide variety of mineral specimens from the oxidized zones, making Lavrion, including Kamariza, one of the most famous mineral localities in Europe.
