The White Rock quarry, located at Clay Center in Ottawa County, Ohio, is a prominent open-pit industrial operation known for the extraction of high-purity construction aggregate and lime products. Geologically, the deposit sits within the Findlay Arch mineral district and exposes thick sequences of the Silurian-aged Lockport and Guelph Dolostones, which feature complex ancient carbonate reef systems and solution cavities. Late-stage, low-temperature hydrothermal fluids migrating through these porous dolomitic reef structures deposited secondary crystallization suites characterized by distinct brown fluorite, celestine, calcite, and sphalerite inside local vugs. Commercial extraction began at least as early as the 1880s with small-scale operations and primitive wood-fired lime kilns, expanding significantly into a large, highly mechanized industrial site over the twentieth century under various corporate entities, including U.S. Aggregates and Stoneco, and it remains fully operational today.
