Calcite
specimen number:
3651641
location:
US Lime Company Quarry, Marble City, Sequoyah Co., Oklahoma, USA
description:
Very good specimen from a locality rarely seen available on the market today. Semi lustrous to lustrous large rhombohedral colorless partly transparent calcite crystals in a twinned grouping 10.5 cm in height set aesthetically on matrix. This is in very good condition. Previous label gives the locality as the Tri-State District in Picher, Oklahoma. That is a common misattribution for these specimens collected in the late 1960s. I believe that many specimens from this locality were sold from the rock shops in the Tri-State District at the time, so people assumed that the specimens came from the local mines.
