description: The Tonglushan Mine in Hubei Province, China, is an important copper mining locality with a history that dates back more than 3,000 years to the Bronze Age. Ancient miners extracted copper ore from the deposit using early underground mining methods, and archaeological remains of these workings have been discovered at the site. Modern mining has also taken place in the area, and the deposit is known for producing copper ore as well as a variety of mineral specimens. The mine has become well known among collectors for minerals such as calcite, fluorite, and other species formed in the hydrothermal ore veins.
Attractive lustrous colorless to red calcite crystal grouping 3.8 cm in size on matrix. This is in terrific condition all around. Brightly fluorescent red under longwave ultraviolet light.
