description:
An excellent old example from a locality that is seldom seen available on the market today. This shows two generations of crystallized calcite, the first one partially coated with iron oxide lustrous and gemmy. The second generation consists of small colorless rhombohedral calcite crystals scattered about. This is in good condition all around.

The Cornwall Copper Mine, located near Weingarten in Ste. Genevieve County, Missouri, was discovered in 1863 and experienced intermittent small-scale operations and exploratory work over the late 19th and early 20th centuries before permanently closing prior to mid-century. Geologically, the deposit is hosted within the Lower Ordovician Cotter and Powell dolomites. The mineralization is localized along horizontal stratigraphic breaks, solution pockets, and minor vertical fractures associated with a regional complex fault zone, featuring primary copper-iron-zinc sulfides alongside prominent secondary oxidation products.
