Collected in the 1970s, this from the original find of this material. Several generations of scalenohedral calcite in a cluster, the first generation coated with sparkling crystallized chalcopyrite. This is in good condition all around with no points of attachment.

The Brushy Creek Mine, located in Reynolds County within the Viburnum Trend of southeast Missouri, began production in 1973 and remains active. Geologically, the mine is part of the Southeast Missouri Lead District, where sediment-hosted lead, zinc, and copper ores occur primarily within the Cambrian-aged Bonneterre Dolomite. The deposits formed through basin-brine hydrothermal activity driven by tectonic events, precipitating economic sulfides such as galena, sphalerite, and chalcopyrite alongside extensive solution cavities famous for exceptional mineral specimens like calcite, marcasite, and lead-associated mineralization.
