The South Petrovitsa Mine, located in the Madan ore field of the Smolyan Province in southern Bulgaria, has been in active industrial operation since the 1950s. Geologically, the deposit is situated along a major northwest-trending transtensional fault system within the Central Rhodope metamorphic complex. The mineralization is hosted in high-grade metamorphic rocks, including gneisses and marble lenses, where Cenozoic hydrothermal fluids formed prominent vein networks and manganese-rich skarn replacement bodies. These structures yield significant lead and zinc sulfide deposits, along with a diverse array of associated accessory minerals.
