Attractive combination specimen showing pale yellow gemmy and lustrous double terminated crystals of calcite to 5.3 cm in length set nicely on a sparkling crystallized quartz matrix with much bright golden crystallized chalcopyrite. This is in very good condition. Quartz is quite ubiquitous from this mine, however good attractive specimen seen hard to come by. This one is excellent.

The Casteel No. 35 Mine in Iron County, Missouri, is part of the Viburnum Trend, a major lead mining district discovered in the 1950s. The mine was developed during the mid to late 20th century as exploration expanded into deeper Cambrian dolomite formations hosting Mississippi Valley type ore bodies. Mining focused on lead rich deposits with galena as the primary ore mineral, along with sphalerite and other sulfides. Operated within the larger Viburnum Trend mining system, the Casteel No. 35 Mine contributed to the significant lead production of southeastern Missouri.
