Calcite with Quartz, Dolomite, Chalcopyrite
specimen number:
1052192
location:
Banska Stiavnica (Schemnitz), Slovakia
description:
Sparkling colorless balls of crystallized calcite to 1.5 cm in diameter across the top of a crystallized quartz covered matrix with chalcopyrite. The specimen comes with an antique label as shown at the end of the video, however I am suspect of the validity of the locality provided. I am not so sure that this is not from Romania. Regardless, this is a beautiful specimen and in good condition. The specimen dates to the late 19th century and at one time was part of the collection of Wilhelm Christoph Hoyer (1826-1897), who is noted in historical sources as having "an extensive mineral collection" and being regarded as an authority in mineralogy in his region of Oldenburg.
