description: The Boldut Mine, situated in Cavnic within Maramures County, Romania, is part of a historic polymetallic mining district with operations dating back centuries. Geologically, the deposit lies within the Neogene volcanic belt of the Gutai Mountains, where complex hydrothermal vein systems cut through volcanic and sedimentary host rocks. These epithermal veins formed rich orebodies containing copper, lead, zinc, gold, and silver. The underground workings of the Boldut Mine became internationally recognized among mineral collectors for yielding crystallized specimens of quartz, dolomite, calcite, and rhodochrosite associated with sulfide minerals such as sphalerite, chalcopyrite, galena, pyrite, and marcasite.
Sparkling platy colorless crystals of calcite to 7.0 cm in size across the top of a crystallized quartz matrix with pyrite. In great condition.
