Calcite with Sphalerite
specimen number:
2057038
location:
New Glencrieff Mine, Wanlockhead, Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland, UK
description:
An excellent Scottish classic with colorless translucent and lustrous scalenohedral crystals of calcite measuring to 4.5 cm in size coming off matrix with lustrous black crystals of sphalerite. Minimal cleaving is present, not atypical of these, I believe that this piece is in good condition. The Scottish calcite specimens are becoming more and more uncommon on the mineral market today. Note that the previous label provides an erroneous locality.
