Calcite with Sphalerite inclusions
specimen number:
2013045
location:
Berry Materials Corp. Quarry, North Vernon, Indiana, USA
description: Classic Indiana specimen with a mostly gemmy semi lustrous large calcite crystal 5.5 cm across set perfectly up on a limestone matrix with several smaller crystals. The calcite crystals exhibit rich inclusions of sphalerite throughout. For many years, these inclusions were thought to be marcasite. Recent studies however have found this to be sphalerite. This is in really good condition. What might at first appears to be damage on one of the crystal corners is just an internal inclusion. This piece is in super condition. Collected in the 1970s.
Size: 8.5 x 7.5 x 3.0 cm (small-cabinet)
Collection: Harris Precht
