Calcite-(with-twin!)
specimen number:
3321026
location:
Sweetwater mine, Viburnum Trend, Reynolds Co., Missouri, USA
description: Scalenohedral calcite crystals smoky to Amber in color and highly translucent with phantom crystals present. In very fine condition, these are set on a small brecciated matrix with minor chalcopyrite. What makes this one slightly unusual is that there is a butterfly twin calcite grouping 4.0 cm across attached to the side of this larger scalenohedral crystal grouping. Normally one sees the twin crystals very large in the non-twin crystal small, this is the opposite. Twinned calcite crystals from the Viburnum Trend are really not terribly common.
Size: 25.0 x 10.0 x 8.5 cm (large-cabinet)
