location:
Pingwu mine, Huya, Mt Little Xuebaoding, Pingwu Co., Mianyang, Sichuan, China
description: The Pingwu mining area in Sichuan, China, is a well known locality for mineral collecting rather than large scale metal production. The deposits occur in hydrothermal veins within metamorphic and sedimentary rocks in a mountainous region. Mining and small scale workings have exposed cavities that produced a variety of mineral specimens including cassiterite, scheelite, and beryl.
A razor-sharp lustrous black exceptionally fine crystal of cassiterite. This is in super condition. Ex Gloria Olson collection.
Size: 2.2 x 2.1 x 2.1 cm (thumbnail)
