Wagholi, located in the Pune District of Maharashtra, India, is a world-renowned locality famous for producing the finest specimens of the rare calcium vanadium silicate mineral known as cavansite. Geologically, the area is situated within the massive basaltic flows of the Deccan Traps, where secondary minerals formed within volcanic vesicles or cavities through late-stage hydrothermal activity. Cavansite is celebrated for its vibrant, electric-blue color and distinctive radiating acicular habits, typically occurring as brilliant rosettes perched upon a matrix of white stilbite or apophyllite. Historically, the extraction of these minerals is a byproduct of industrial stone quarrying for road metal and construction aggregate, which significantly expanded during the late 20th century. While the quarries were most prolific for mineral specimens from the mid-1990s through the early 2000s, urban sprawl and changes in land use have since limited access to many of the classic pits.
