The Stoneco quarry, situated in Lime City, Wood County, Ohio, is a notable industrial site recognized by mineral collectors for producing sharp celestite and dogtooth calcite specimens within its exposed rock strata. Geologically, the deposit targets the Silurian-aged Greenfield and Guelph dolostone formations, which feature remnant reef structures and open vugs created by historic mineralizing fluids. Commercial extraction at this localized operation focused heavily on crushing the dolomitic limestone for industrial aggregate and construction materials. The site experienced active quarrying and changing corporate oversight through the mid-to-late twentieth century under regional operators like Stoneco, which later transitioned under corporate consolidation to the Shelly Company in 2004. Large-scale industrial production eventually ceased at this specific location, allowing the pit to fill with ground water, leaving the majority of the historic quarry site completely flooded today.
