The Blue Owl Mine, located near Wickenburg in Yavapai County, Arizona, was originally established in 1980 under the name of the S and O Claim by the Widham Drilling Company as an initial silver prospect. Geologically, the deposit sits within a region of complex local terrain where historical exploration focused on mineralized silver-bearing veins and galena, later gaining recognition among mineral enthusiasts as a locality for specimen-quality cerussite, barite, amethyst, and fluorite. Historically, after modest initial development involving a small pit and exploratory drilling, the property transitioned into a well-known collecting site and was eventually acquired by a regional rock and mineral club to preserve access and protect the area for future generations.
