description: The Tsumeb Mine in northern Namibia is one of the most famous mineral localities in the world and was worked primarily for copper, lead, and zinc from the late 1800s until its closure in 1996. The deposit is well known for its rich oxidized zones that produced an exceptional variety of secondary minerals. Cerussite, a lead carbonate formed by the alteration of galena, is one of the important species from the mine. At Tsumeb it commonly occurs as bright, transparent to translucent crystals that may form reticulated or twinned groups, and some specimens show excellent clarity and luster that make them highly valued by mineral collectors.
A mostly loose grouping of glassy gemmy twinned cerussite crystals. Little attached matrix and slight damage present, this still in very good condition. Very choice for the species.
