The mining district of Stribro, historically known as Mies, is situated in the Plzen Region of the Czech Republic and represents one of the most storied silver-lead deposits in Central Europe. Geologically, the mineralization is hosted within a series of powerful hydrothermal veins that cut through Neoproterozoic phyllites and related metamorphic rocks of the Tepla-Barrandian Unit. These veins are primarily composed of quartz, barite, and carbonates, which served as the host for primary galena and sphalerite. Historically, the area has been a center for mining since the 12th century, with the town itself named after the Czech word for silver. The district saw several centuries of intense activity, particularly during the Middle Ages, and remained a significant producer of lead and silver until the final closure of the mines in the late 20th century.

For mineral collectors, Stribro is internationally renowned for its world-class cerussite specimens, which are almost exclusively found in direct association with their parent mineral, galena. The cerussite formed as a secondary oxidation product, often appearing as brilliant, adamantine crystals perched directly upon the faces of dark, metallic galena or within the cavities of partially decomposed lead ore. These crystals frequently exhibit spectacular twinning, including the iconic "snowflake" reticulated habits and sharp, V-shaped contact twins. The contrast between the high-luster, transparent to white cerussite and the heavy, grey galena matrix makes these specimens some of the most aesthetically prized lead minerals in European collections.
