Wallmerod is a municipality located in the Westerwaldkreis district of Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, with a local history rooted in medieval settlement patterns and extensive rural clay-mining traditions that developed across the Westerwald region over centuries. Geologically, the area is characterized by extensive Cenozoic volcanic and sedimentary formations, where Tertiary basaltic flows and volcanic activity interact with rich clay deposits. Mineralogically, the basaltic quarries and cavities in this part of Germany are well known for producing fine specimens of zeolite minerals, most notably chabazite, which forms distinct pseudo-cubic rhombohedral crystals inside the vesicles of the ancient volcanic rocks.
