Chalcocite
specimen number:
2062067
location:
Flambeau Mine, Rusk Co., Wisconsin, USA
description: The Flambeau Mine near Ladysmith in Rusk County, Wisconsin, was an open pit copper and gold mine that operated from 1993 to 1997. The deposit was a volcanogenic massive sulfide type ore body hosted in Precambrian volcanic rocks. Some of the finest examples of chalcocite known from North America were recovered during it's short operation.
An excellent stacked grouping of chalcocite crystals without matrix. In great condition all around. Collected in 1996. This is very fine for this north American classic.
Size: 5.5 x 3.0 x 3.0 cm (miniature)
