Chalcocite with Calcite (repaired-faked?)
specimen number:
1114017
location:
Copiapo, Atacama, Chile
description:
Quite nice semi lustrous metallic crystals of chalcocite measuring to 2.0 cm in height coming off this crystallized calcite matrix. This very most definitely appears to me to either have been repaired or faked. I have soaked this in acetone for many days in the crystals did not come detached. But looking at it closely still, I swear that the crystal is put on the matrix. I cannot figure if it originally came from there are not. If the crystal were detached, it would make a superb thumbnail.
