Chevkinite-Ce

specimen number:
1052342

location:
Antsirabe, Ambanja, Diana, Madagascar

description:
A very large loose crystal of chevkinite-Ce without matrix. Very slight damage present. This is complete all around. Certainly aesthetically challenged, this still is a very good large crystal for the species. The specimen comes with an antique label and dates to the very early 20th century. Chevkinite is a rare earth bearing silicate mineral first described in the 19th century from the Ilmen Mountains in the Ural region of Russia. The older German spelling tschewkinit appears in historical mineralogical literature and labels, while chevkinite is the modern English and international mineral name used today.
