The Coronado Mine, located in Sonora, Mexico, is a historic base metal operation primarily recognized for its copper and silver mineralization. Geologically, the deposit is situated within the region's prolific mineralized belts, where ore bodies occur along structural fissure veins and fracture zones cutting through Tertiary volcanic and intrusive rock complexes. The primary mineralization features copper sulfides such as chalcopyrite and pyrite, alongside an array of secondary copper oxides and carbonates within localized oxidation zones near the surface. Exploration and underground mining activities occurred intermittently starting in the late 19th century and extended into the early 20th century, with documented operations and local prospecting active around the 1900s to 1910s.
