Chloritoid

specimen number:
1052236

location:
Kaisersberg, Sankt Stefan ob Leoben, Leoben, Styria, Austria

description:
A solid representative specimen featuring dark green crystals and granular aggregates of chloritoid measuring up to 0.5 cm distributed throughout a schist matrix. The contrast between the chloritoid and the schist host provides good visual definition and makes the mineralization easy to study. The specimen is accompanied by an antique label dating to the early 20th century, as shown at the end of the video, adding important historical provenance and collector appeal. Kaisersberg in Styria is part of a well known Austrian metamorphic district where medium to high grade regional metamorphism produced classic occurrences of chloritoid and related minerals within schists, making this a desirable example from a historic European locality.
