The Ray Mine, located in Pinal County, Arizona, has a rich mining history dating back to the late 19th century, with formal commercial operations and underground mining starting around 1880 before transitioning into a massive open-pit operation in the mid-20th century. Geologically, the deposit is a classic porphyry copper system hosted within a complex framework of Precambrian rocks, diabase sills, and Laramide-age intrusive stocks. The orebody features extensive hypogene and supergene enrichment, yielding significant concentrations of copper sulfides such as chalcopyrite and chalcocite, alongside notable secondary mineral specimens collected from its weathered zones.
